SunSwitch - installation and design guide

The key to successful heating for your patio is to install enough heaters of the right power output and type. We include guidelines for mounting heights and the size of area you can expect to be heated on our products pages.

Our most popular heater is SunSwitch Weathersafe ™1.3kW . One of these, mounted at a height of 2.2-2.5m will generally serve an area with a table and seating for six to eight people. One heater is usually fine in a domestic situation. Two will provide better coverage and greater comfort.

In theory, in perfectly still open air, SunSwitch infra-red heaters should be comfortable to sit under in temperatures as low as 7-8° C. However, air is rarely still and we find that the heaters work very effectively from about 12-13°C. In other words, from spring to autumn.

Mounting your SunSwitch infra-red heaters under an awning or parasol will tend to trap some of the warmth, making them feel warmer (so heat regulation may be required). Similarly, providing protection from the wind, for example with Terrazzo terrace screening will greatly increase comfort levels.

Typical installation (SunSwitch 1.3kW Weathersafe):

typical installation

SunSwitch Weathersafe™ is supplied with a mounting bracket and installation instructions.

SunSwitch Weathersafe™ can be installed in minutes. Using the bracket provided, it should be positioned out of reach and directed onto the area where warmth is required, with the element horizontal.

Sunswitch Weathersafe™ can be installed on walls, rigid fence posts and pergolas, or under parasols and awnings using special brackets.

If SunSwitch Weathersafe™ is to be installed outside, as a minimum, a Residual Current Detector and a weatherproof socket should be used. Please note that all electrical installation works outdoors should be in accordance with electrical regulations.
