SunSwitch
Quartz Halogen infra red heaters are ideal for buildings where
it would not be practical or cost-effective to provide comfortable
conditions by raising the air temperature. SunSwitch offers the
largest range of quartz halogen heaters in the UK, including models
specifically designed for workshop and industrial use. We are
pleased to offer guidance on the specification and application
of our products - please contact us on 01424 883344 for advice.
Why Quartz Halogen
Infra Red?
SunSwitch Quartz Halogen heaters emit short wavelength infra red
energy that passes through the air very effectively, rather like
the rays of the sun. They provide warmth instantaneously, so there
is no wasteful warm up period before use, and the 'throw' of heat
is much greater than other heating technologies. Furthermore,
because they do not provide warmth by heating the air, SunSwitch
Quartz Halogen infra red requires much less energy than other
heating methods to create comfortable working conditions - often
as little as 40% compared with a blown or convected air system.
This substantially reduces long term running costs. Zoning reduces
operating costs further.
Zone heating
In larger industrial units, it may not be practical or cost-effective
to provide comfortable working conditions by raising the air temperature
inside the building. With quartz halogen, warm zones can be created
just for the places where people actually work. Energy is therefore
not wasted heating air unnecessarily. In some situations, it is
necessary to have doors open: in others, ventilation plant may
be operating. In all such cases, heating the air does not make
sense. SunSwitch radiant warmth is the answer because short wavelength
infra red does not blow away.
Outstanding comfort
Short wavelength infra red, the sort of heat produced by SunSwitch
heaters feels like the warmth of the sun, because it emits infra
red energy in similar proportions (see
graph). SunSwitch heaters are comfortable to work in
partly because of this, but also because the air temperature is
lower than with other heating methods. This type of heat is also
kinder to many natural materials, such as wood, because it does
not dry the air in the same way that blown air and convector heaters
do. For this reason our client base includes cabinet makers and
musical instrument makers. Equally though, our heaters are in
daily use in engineering workshops, assembly areas and even waste
recycling plants.
Dust and splashproof
models
Some of the heaters we supply, such as the SunSwitch IP54, are
sealed with a tempered safety glass front panel to protect them
from splashes and dust. This makes them suitable for use where
dust or moisture would otherwise be a problem. Because they are
sealed, routine cleaning is not required to maintain performance.
Furthermore, the fire risk usually associated with exposed gas
or electrical elements is not present.
