At last - heating that makes animal husbandry easier

Kennels and Catteries
Many kennels and catteries are still unheated, while those that are may be using inappropriate heating technologies. SunSwitch quartz halogen is an effective heating method for a kennel or cattery because radiant energy does not heat the air - it only heats objects within the heat zone. Pets appreciate the feel of SunSwitch, which is just like the warmth of the sun. An added benefit for the kennel or cattery owner is that energy costs are reduced compared to other heating methods, because you are not spending money trying to heat the air.

Installed on the wall out of harms way, SunSwitch heaters will create a pool of warmth. For kennels and catteries, we recommend the use of weathersafe models wherever there is any risk of rain or moisture entering the heater - otherwise indoor heaters are fine. We recommend the use of VR1 regulators which allow the heat output to be fine tuned. These are just like a 'beefy' dimmer switch, except that when heat is turned down, they also save energy.

Birthing
Traditionally, so called 'pig lamps' are used to provide heat for rearing. These use infra-red (infrared) bulbs which are similar in appearance to a PAR38 spotlight bulbs. The main problem with pig lamps is that the output is so low that the lamps have to be placed very close to the animals for them to receive sufficient warmth. This also means that the lamp may be placed in a position where the exposed element is at risk of being knocked by the birthing mother.

For birthing, we recommend SunSwitch IP54 as a better alternative. Firstly, the element is behind a tempered safety glass panel. In addition, though, the heat output is much greater, so the heat source can be placed further away, creating a larger pool of warmth. We also recommend the use of heat regulators so the actual heat output can be adjusted to provide comfort for the animals no matter how mild or severe the weather.
