The key to successful heating for your terrace
area is to install enough heaters of the right power output and
type. We include guidelines for mounting heights and the size of area you can expect to be heated on our products pages.

In theory, in perfectly still open air,
SunSwitch infra-red heaters should be comfortable to sit under
in temperatures as low as 7-8° C. However, air is rarely still
and we find that the heaters work very effectively from about
12-13°C. This means your outdoor covers should be productive
from early March to late October. In fact, we have seen customers
outdoors in the UK under SunSwitches in early January.
Mounting your SunSwitch infra-red heaters under
an awning or parasol will tend to trap some of the warmth, making
them feel warmer (so heat regulation may be required). Similarly,
providing protection from the wind, for example with Terrazzo
terrace screening will greatly increase comfort levels.

Example of an installation
Our most popular heater is SunSwitch Weathersafe 1.3kW . One of these, mounted at a height of 2.2-2.5m will generally serve an area with a table and seating for six to eight people.
Typically these heaters are installed along a restaurant front
about every 1.5 - 3.0 metres:

Typical installation (SunSwitch 1.3kW Weathersafe):

SunSwitch Weathersafe is supplied
with a mounting bracket and installation
instructions.
SunSwitch Weathersafe can be installed
in minutes. Using the bracket provided, it should be positioned
out of reach and directed onto the area where warmth is
required, with the element horizontal.
Sunswitch Weathersafe can be installed
on walls, rigid fence posts and pergolas, or under parasols
and awnings using special brackets.
If SunSwitch Weathersafe is to be
installed outside, as a minimum, a Residual Current Detector
and a weatherproof socket should be used. Please note that all electrical
installation works outdoors should be in accordance with electrical
regulations.
